September 7, 2018: Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Per Diem

Everything our Maximum Leader, our Caesar Disgustus says is a lie.”
----from “The Quotations of Chairman Joe”

Indeed, Disgustus rode to power on the wings of two of the greatest lies ever perpetuated upon the American people: that Obama wasn't born in this country, and that the United States is being overrun by foreigners, principally from Latin America. In fact, as even Disgustus has occasionally and albeit briefly and in almost inaudible tones has admitted, Obama had radically increased the number of deportations from this country. But what is mere fact when it interferes with such splendid fiction.

In the May-June edition of Mother Jones, a page of interesting graphics presents itself. According to Madison Pauly, who gathered and presented the facts,(1) in the past 15 years “Immigration-related apprehensions have gone down, yet detaining immigrants is on the rise—and a big increase is expected this year.” (2) In the last year, according to statistics cited by Pauly, arrests are down 57 per cent from 15 years ago, but detentions have increased by 91 per cent.

Moreover, of every 100 immigrants who are detained 74 per cent are now being held in for-profit facilities, 32 per cent by an outfit calling itself GEO Group and 21 per cent held by a corporation calling itself CoreCivic. 21 per cent are held in other private facilities and only 26 per cent are held in public jails. (3) This is the cost of privatization. We have the beds, now fill them.

Let one assume that all this is saving the public purse. Think again. It costs a hundred dollars a day to hold a detainee in a public jail. It cost one hundred and forty-eight dollars to hold the same person in a for-profit operation. 48% more. The cost of having a detainee in an alternative to detention program? Four dollars a day!

It is a lie that privatization saves money, yet another mischaracterization, another canard of the idiot-wrong that says that the private sector can always do it better—and cheaper!.

As the nation, suffering under the impact of an unhinged raging lunatic is otherwise diverted, the march toward privatization and the plundering of the public domain continues apace. Obama, in 2016, had moved to end the contracts with private prisons. Disgustus, as the distracted nation looked elsewhere, reversed course. Parasites sucking off people's pain while the nation awaits yet another 'tweetstorm'.

An Br'er Putin he jus' laugh and laugh”

Impeach and Imprison
