“They seek him here,
they seek him there
the tRUMPists seek him
everywhereis he in heaven or is he in hell?
The damned illusive Pimpernel”
Caesar
Disgustus is in a rage as his White House minions scurry about like
rats on a ship in a desperate search for someone calling himself
'anonymous'. You see 'Anonymous' published an editorial in The
New York Times in which he excoriated Disgustus informing the
nation that there is a band of committed public servants working
night and day to keep our Disgusting Supreme Leader from going off
the rails. “Anonymous” is our modern Scarlet Pimpernel who, in
this case, is about the business of spiriting his message out of the
White House before the truth is guillotined.
The
allusion is, of course, to the 1930's film starring Leslie Howard and
Raymond Massey about an English aristocrat who, assuming various
disguises, spirits French Aristocrats from the clutch of revolution
safely into the arms of a free England.
There
has been a mad rush of late to get the truth out while the telling
can be told. What had been sporadic inside accounts have now become
an avalanche. Earlier this year we were treated to Michael Wolff's
book ”Fire and Fury” and, in August, to Omarosa's “Unhinged”.
In a matter of days the White House has had to contend with two major
assaults upon the competence, integrity and judgment of Disgustus and
his cabal. On the heels of Bob Woodward's “Fear” comes this
editorial in The New York Times (1).
Wolff's
and Omarosa's accounts could be and have been dismissed by the White
House. Wolff is a gossip columnist writing serious history for the
first time and Omarosa, a refugee from the days Disgustus spent with
'reality' television, is seen as a self-serving gold digger trading
her position at the White House for future rewards. Both judgments,
given the subject matter, are harsh. Both have an agenda—who
doesn't—but the accounts depicted ring true with all the other
reporting coming out of this hemorrhaging White House.
Woodward
isn't so easy to dismiss. Woodward has been chronicling All The
President's Men for nearly a half century now, beginning with his
break-out reporting with Carl Bernstein on Watergate. Woodward
is a serious reporter who does extensive research and whose work has
stood the test of time. His treatment of tRUMP will not be out for
another three days but the advance reviews tell—in graphic
tale—more of the same, validating the earlier work and reporting on
this administration.
No
sooner had Woodward released advanced copies of his new work setting
off the chattering class with lurid details when 'Anonymous' hit the
newsstands.
“The dilemma—which
he does not fully grasp—is that many of the senior officials in his
own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate
parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.” 'Anonymous'
wrote of tRUMP.
“I would know, I am
one of them.”, declared the
author.
“The root of the
problem is the president's amorality. Anyone who works with him
knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide
his decision making.”
Therefore:
Although
“We want the administration to succeed and think that many of
its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.
“But we believe our
first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in
a manner that is detrimental to the health of our Republic” (2)
'Anonymous'
lists what he thinks are the achievements of this rogue
administration—the usual palaver about tax cuts, deregulation etc.
and then goes on to list a bill of particulars where he (they) feel
that Disgustus is falling short, foremost in foreign policy and his
handling of Putin particularly.
“Meetings with him
veer off topic and off the rails, he engages in repetitive rants, and
his impulsiveness results in half-baked, ill-informed and
occasionally reckless decisions that have to be walked back.
“'There is literally
no telling whether he might change his mind from one minute to the
next,' a top official complained...recently...(3)
Not to
worry folks....
The erratic behavior
would be more concerning if it weren't for unsung heroes in and
around
the White House. Some of his aids have been cast as
villains by the media. But in private, they have gone to great
lengths to keep bad decisions contained in the West Wing, though they
are clearly not always successful.
“It may be cold
comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are
adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And ware
trying to do what's right even when Donald Trump won't.
“The result is a
two-track presidency”. (4)
For
instance while Disgustus genuflects before Kim Jong-Un and kneels to
service Vladimir Putin, “the rest of the administration is
operating on another track, one where allies around the world are
engaged as peers rather than ridiculed as rivals...”(5)
“This
isn't the work of the so-called deep state. It's the work of the
steady state”(6) writes Anonymous.
There
have been whispers he assures us of resorting to the 25th
amendment but cabinet officials have recoiled, Anonymous explains,
not wanting to “precipitate a constitutional crisis” (7)
We are
already engulfed in a constitutional crisis and have been since the
Electoral College failed to perform its function. Disgustus, our
'stable genius' promised us only the best. The best people. Here we
have a cabal that, in the words of 'Anonymous' are concerned with
“not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what
we as a nation have allowed him to do to us. We have sunk low with
him and allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility.”(8) This,
as a result of a leadership style that the author describes as
“impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective”.(9)
'Anonymous' might well have added ignorant, venal, greedy,
self-serving, vindictive, cruel and breathtakingly incompetent to
his list of adjectives.
But
none of those are impeachable offenses, although appointing the
hopelessly incompetent to federal positions might very well
qualify...
And
therein lies the problem. For although the 25th amendment
can begin the process of removal—no hearings, no impeachment
trial—it will, in the end, still take a vote of 2/3 of each house
to remove this cancer from the body of our nation. One is hard
pressed to find a Rescumlickan member of congress with the requisite
profile in courage. Certainly not Collins. Certainly not Graham.
Certainly not Corker or Flake... who then will stand with the
opposition and demand justice?
And so
we are left to the tender administrations of the “Steady-State”
to keep us safe from harm. It is a thin thread indeed, for it is not
the 'deep state', nor is it the self-styled 'steady state', but the
'shallow state', a cabal of tRUMP's making and well within the power
of Disgustus to unmake.
Still,
one must, nevertheless, give credit where it is due. 'Anonymous'
appears to be an unwilling participant in this cabal driven as they
are by some effort to salvage at least the trappings of the former
republic. But they miss the point entirely. 'Anonymous' assures us
that they are fully aware of what is going on; of the gravity of the
situation and he and his cohorts are quite right in here sounding the
alarm. But they are quite wrong to assert as 'Anonymous' does in the
editorial that our biggest concern is not what Disgustus is doing to
the presidency. For this fails to take full measure that the damage
done to the institution is his greatest obscenity; inflicting the
greatest harm daily upon the nation.
Who is
'Anonymous'? That is the question. They seek him here...they seek
him there. Disgustus has called him out as a coward. I am of the
opinion that the thoughts expressed both as that of a cabal calling
itself the 'steady-state', and anonymously not only prevents the
White House from doing its usual number on anyone speaking
out-of-school, but conveys a deeply held conviction by nearly
everyone who comes even remotely in the orbit of Caesar that he is an
ignorant, incompetent, and disgusting fool.
And,
as Disgustus scurries about desperate to guillotine the truth our
Scarlet Pimpernel delivers truth safely into the arms of a free
press.
“'An
Br'er Putin, he jus' laugh and laugh”
Impeach and Imprison.
